4-H Shooting

I have recently competed in a regional shotgun tournament. I won 4th place. I will now compete at the state competition for a chance to go to nationals.

This will be a post on an american speech of my choosing. I have chosen the Pearl Harbor speech given by Franklin Delano Roosevelt. This speech, in my view, is one of the most influential of all time. I feel it shows america isn’t scared to stand up to an attack. Below is the speechMr. Vice President, Mr. Speaker, Members of the Senate, and of the House of Representatives:

Yesterday, December 7th, 1941 — a date which will live in infamy — the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan.

The United States was at peace with that nation and, at the solicitation of Japan, was still in conversation with its government and its emperor looking toward the maintenance of peace in the Pacific.

Indeed, one hour after Japanese air squadrons had commenced bombing in the American island of Oahu, the Japanese ambassador to the United States and his colleague delivered to our Secretary of State a formal reply to a recent American message. And while this reply stated that it seemed useless to continue the existing diplomatic negotiations, it contained no threat or hint of war or of armed attack.

It will be recorded that the distance of Hawaii from Japan makes it obvious that the attack was deliberately planned many days or even weeks ago. During the intervening time, the Japanese government has deliberately sought to deceive the United States by false statements and expressions of hope for continued peace.

The attack yesterday on the Hawaiian islands has caused severe damage to American naval and military forces. I regret to tell you that very many American lives have been lost. In addition, American ships have been reported torpedoed on the high seas between San Francisco and Honolulu.

Yesterday, the Japanese government also launched an attack against Malaya.

Last night, Japanese forces attacked Hong Kong.

Last night, Japanese forces attacked Guam.

Last night, Japanese forces attacked the Philippine Islands.

Last night, the Japanese attacked Wake Island.

And this morning, the Japanese attacked Midway Island.

Japan has, therefore, undertaken a surprise offensive extending throughout the Pacific area. The facts of yesterday and today speak for themselves. The people of the United States have already formed their opinions and well understand the implications to the very life and safety of our nation.

As commander in chief of the Army and Navy, I have directed that all measures be taken for our defense. But always will our whole nation remember the character of the onslaught against us.

No matter how long it may take us to overcome this premeditated invasion, the American people in their righteous might will win through to absolute victory.

I believe that I interpret the will of the Congress and of the people when I assert that we will not only defend ourselves to the uttermost, but will make it very certain that this form of treachery shall never again endanger us.

Hostilities exist. There is no blinking at the fact that our people, our territory, and our interests are in grave danger.

With confidence in our armed forces, with the unbounding determination of our people, we will gain the inevitable triumph — so help us God.

I ask that the Congress declare that since the unprovoked and dastardly attack by Japan on Sunday, December 7th, 1941, a state of war has existed between the United States and the Japanese empire.

First Two Challenges

The first two challenges were very easy to accomplish. The first was to create an about page. The second was to create an avatar.

Movie Summary

I liked the movie unit. It was more fun than the photo unit. I felt like I was more involved besides the fact I was the cameraman. There is more action in making a movie than just taking a picture. Also, the thought process is larger because there is more to it than just taking a picture. You have to edit sound and clips and other things out of a movie.

Shooting

I have not got the chance to talk about my shooting “career” yet. I am a member of the Northwest Louisiana Shotgun League which is associated with an agricultural association called 4-h. Shooting is very fun as it is a sport that practice does make perfect in. In last years SCTP(Scholastic Clay Target Program) I got 4th place out of 235 people. In the average shooters life he shoots 10,000 rounds. In my 3 years of shooting I have shot 20,000 rounds. SHooting is also a game where the gun doesn’t matter. Although my gun is a Beretta shipped from Italy.

Government

Hello again. In this entry I will be talking about our government. Our government is very simple. There are only three branches in our U.S government. These branches are judicial, legislative, and executive. Just so you know, this is the same for all other types of government like city and state. In the judicial branch, are the court systems. This means all of the laws and such start here. In the legislative branch the laws are put through to be passed. Finally, the executive branch is basically where the president is. This is where he signs bills into laws.

Photography Summary

I liked this photo unit we have just covered. There was more to it than I thought there was. I have a greater respect for photography.

My hometown is Minden, Louisiana.  It was established in 1836.  I have lived here for fifteen years and ten months or my entire life.  I like Minden because it has fun things to do, or that I like at least.  These things mainly include hunting and fishing.  Minden is at the top of Kisatchie National Forest.  Kisatchie, obviously a national forest, is about 625,000 acres of land in Louisiana that is federally protected.  Many game animals live here such as the white-tailed deer, wild turkey, and various ducks.  Also, as I said I like to fish. In Minden and north Louisiana there are many places to fish like Caney Lake, Turners’ Pond, and various “secret spots”.

Another fact about MInden is that it is the parish seat of Webster Parish.  Louisiana has parishes instead of counties, and parish seats are like the “parish capital”.   Minden is a rather famous town in Louisiana. It has been host to a number of movies.  These movies are “Longshots”, ” Blonde Ambitions”, and ” The Guardian”.  As you can see, Minden is a very small, but popular town.
